Consumer Education in India

With the arrival of industrial revolution in the world, the practice of buying and selling i.e. trade activities has reached to its significant level. Therefore, it is in concern that do people or consumers really draw benefit out of the product or service they buy. In other words, it is in question that is the amount charged for goods and services really worth it.
So, here comes the concern for consumer education. If consumers are educated and well informed about their rights then they will avail maximum benefit from the goods and/or services they purchase. The second point is for the question that why is consumer education necessary. It is because consumers are spread all over the country and it is not humanly possible to make a common platform for them in one area. Moreover, when government's ultimate goal is increasing the standard of living to its maximum level for the general public. Therefore, consumerism should be included as a separate subject in schools and other discipline is that at young age only people become aware of their rights and duties and buy goods and services carefully.

  1. Good Idea. Is it not already part of some course. can you list out few distinct topics in power point form which could form the basis of writing a syllabus for this subject.

    1. Topics? I didn't think of them yet. But let's see...

      How about:

      1.) What consumer needs?
2.) How should a consumer check that goods and services he/she is purchasing is worth the amount he/she is spending?
3.) How to make comparison from other sellers?

  2. I agree with the suggestion given above. Maybe you could spend some time explaining and building on the idea for the syllabus in schools.
